Therapeutic Approaches
My approach to therapy consists of a dynamic balance between exploring self-acceptance while also striving for meaningful change.
Using a trauma-informed and strength-based lens, I am committed to working together with you to promote feelings of empowerment and help find meaning in your experiences and relationships. As a member of the queer community, I am also committed to providing care that is client-centred and informed by anti-oppressive perspectives.
Although my work pulls from several therapeutic models, my training background primarily consists of Dialogic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT). See below for a short description of each model’s principles.
My practice emphasizes the importance of strong therapeutic relationships, and I am committed to providing therapy that is personalized to your specific goals. Through my values of understanding, collaboration, and advocacy, I hope that you leave every session feeling seen and heard. I offer both short and long term therapy in-person in Sault Ste. Marie and virtually across the rest of Ontario.
Dialogic Therapy is an approach that emphasizes open and respectful conversation between therapist and client, fostering a collaborative and empowering process for exploring, reframing, and resolving personal challenges and conflicts.
Solution-Focused Therapy is a goal-oriented approach that focuses on exploring a client's strengths, resources, and desired outcomes to foster empowerment, collaboration, and the development of practical solutions to their challenges.
Narrative Therapy is a collaborative and empowering approach that seeks to help individuals separate themselves from their problems by examining and reshaping their personal narratives, ultimately empowering them to create new, more positive stories about their lives.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is a client-centered approach that helps individuals identify, understand, and process their emotions as a means of facilitating personal growth and fostering therapeutic change. Through empathetic exploration and targeting emotional experiences, EFT aims to promote emotional awareness and transform maladaptive emotional patterns.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive therapeutic approach that combines mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills to help individuals manage overwhelming emotions, improve relationships, and develop a balanced sense of self.
